Humorous Field - Field to Humour =

    Kwok Kin SO (蘇國堅)

This is an experiment in spatial humour, and this assumption of humour can be applied to any urban space. Since this project starts with Lingnan University’s support of its Artist-in-Residence Program, it would seem appropriate to base the experiment around the university campus. Two straight lines were laid on the map of Tuen Mun. The lines extend to East-West through the ridge. The line to the South stretches across the valley and ends on the South coast. Two transects span a wide variety spaces and urban life in Tuen Mun. They would become the premises of this experiment. Exploring the two fixed paths, the artist observes and discovers potential humour along the route. This methodology was adapted from census data collection of marine life, in which marine biologists follow a selected transect across the sea floor and record the species of plants and sea animal encountered.

intralingual : a bilingual student magazine = 人云譯云

2015-2016 Bilingual Publication Workshop, Department of Translation, Lingnan University

This magazine is the product—or in pedagogical terms, the learning outcome—of a course offered by the Department of Translation at Lingnan University called Bilingual Publication Workshop. The aim of the Department of Translation is to not only train students in written translation and oral interpreting between Chinese and English, but also to prepare students for work in a wide variety of careers that require excellent bilingual skills. In Hong Kong, many jobs, such as those in the publishing world, require such training.

  • 司徒衛 : 嶺南校徽設計者 = Szto Wai : designer of the Lingnan emblem by Young AU-YOUNG (歐陽讓)

Szto Wai : designer of the Lingnan emblem

    Young AU-YOUNG (歐陽讓)

This publication was authored by IR AU-YOUNG Young, Lingnan alumni of Class 1947, with main purpose to appraise the contribution of Mr. Szto Wai, the designer of Lingnan Emblem, for Lingnan. During the Sino-Japanese War (1942-1944), Lingnan evacuated from Hong Kong and re-opened in Shao Kwan, the Northern part of Kwangtung Province. Mr. Szto Wai, together with President Lee Y. L. re-developed a new University campus at Taitsuen, some 30 miles from Shaokwan, a nearby railway station called Sin Yan Miu ("Miu" means temple). Mr. Szto Wai later created a series of watercolours and sketches of Taitsuen campus, which are now the most important and valuable records documenting Lingnan history at Taitsuen.

Mr. AU-YOUNG chronicle his memory at Taitsuen and introduced the background about the creation of Lingnan Emblem by Mr. Szto Wai. Mr. AU-YOUNG chose nine paintings of Szto Wai, supplementing each with bilingual description in both Chinese and English. This publication not only to serves to muse those alumni to recall those remote by-gone days but also enhance the young Lingnanians to learn the emblem designer's devotion and contribution to Lingnan over 40 years.

‘In Search of the Peachland’ is an art exchange project involving many different layers of idea exchanges amongst different parties: including 6 art units from Kam Tin and Busan (5 artists and 1 artist group), 12 students from the Visual Studies Department of Lingnan University. They went to Busan for a field trip in the end of February, 2015, to visit different art organizations and art students in Busan. During the trip, it was not difficult to find out that both Hong Kong and Busan also encounter similar problems, when undergoing intensive urban development and redevelopment. After the field-trip, two artists from Busan: KIM Dae Hong and KIM Mi Young came to Hong Kong for an artist-in-residency period in Kam Tin during March. All participating artists from Kam Tin and Busan worked with students together in Kam Tin for various art projects, which were shown on-site on 21st and 22nd of March 2015. In the end, the documentation of the on-site projects was displayed at C&G Artpartment, for a month, for the public to have an overview of the whole exchange program.
