    服務研習處於2016年年底,推出一項為期3年由香港賽馬會慈善信託基金捐助的賽馬會「關愛.服務.研習 @ 屯門」計劃,透過連繫政府不同部門、非政府組織、教育界和商業機構等持份者,創造跨界別協作的服務研習項目,於社區推動「積極樂頤年」,以應對人口高齡化社會議題。

    Jockey Club “We Care, We Serve, We Learn @ Tuen Mun” Programme is a 3-year programme funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust starting from end of 2016. It aims to promote the concept of inter-generational collaboration and active aging through working with different stakeholders including government departments, non-governmental organizations, academia and business partners, and to create a cross-sectoral collaborative S-L platform.

    嶺南大學服務研習處

    此書是在賽馬會「關愛‧ 服務‧ 研習@ 屯門」計劃下,通過嶺大學生與社區人士合作的一系列服務研習計劃,所產生的重點產物。而這個廣泛合作的計劃,由嶺南大學服務研習處營運,並由香港賽馬會提供資助。出版這本書主要有四個目的:首先,利用此書向公眾展示嶺大校園的美態,並介紹其歷史與文化價值;第二,適逢嶺大於香港復校五十週年,出版此書正好作為慶祝和標誌的一部分;第三,通過此書突顯長者與學生之間,是如何達致跨代共融;第四,以此書展示服務研習配合學術課程的良好效果,與不同學科的整合是如何實踐。

    此書的由來,緣於服務研習處安排了一些社區長者擔任藝行大使,於8月25 日的嶺大迎新營帶領校園導賞團。長者運用自己的歷史知識,於導賞團集中介紹嶺大校園的建築及自然生態特色。其後,一些藝行大使為兩組嶺大學生,安排了相類似的校園導賞團,希望從中訓練學生,學習對嶺大校園的不同部分作介紹。兩組學生於大學修讀兩個不同學科的課程,當中包括有68 位修讀的「CLA 9015 記遊 書寫」及有7 位修讀的「CLA 9014 創意數碼影像」。

    經過藝行大使的訓練後,「CLA 9015 記遊 書寫」的學生,於 2017 年 10 月 21 日的嶺南大學資訊日為公眾人士舉辦校園導賞遊。對於這次籌辦服務的經驗,學生都有所反思,並將相關文章收錄於此書內。而「CLA9014創意數碼影像」的學生,則學習為校園的建築及風景拍下有意義的照片,其作品亦已成為此書的插圖。兩組學生均可從教授的教學上,學習到應用相關的技術和概念。而藝行大使亦為此書提供了詳盡的內容及歷史記敘。

    「穿膠花」、「剪線頭」是不少老一輩香港人的集體回憶。1950年代,韓戰禁運、內地移民等因素促使香港工業起飛,使這個轉口港搖身一變成為世界工廠。當中「紡織及製衣業」、「塑膠及玩具業」、「鐘錶業」和「電子業」發展尤為突出,獲得了「四大工業」的美譽。這些港製產品價廉物美,遠銷歐美市場,取得了驕人成績,使「香港製造」品牌蜚聲國際。然而隨著內地在1978年推出改革開放政策,香港工廠相繼北移,四大工業亦逐步轉型。本展覽將介紹四大工業的發展,重溫香港製造業的黃金歲月。

    中英街是香港最具特殊意義的一條街。嚴格而言,中英街並不算一條街,它是港深兩地接壤的禁區中的一處邊界,只是中間沒有鐵絲網或圍牆之類的分界物而已。香港只擁有這條街一半的管轄權,另一半屬於深圳。冷戰時期,中英街是分隔世界兩大政治陣營的主要邊界之一;一邊是社會主義的中國,另一邊則由資本主義的英國管治。不過,中英街的邊界線只有疏落的幾座界石,兩邊分屬中港兩地的居民可以自由往來。中國改革開放之初,中英街是內地居民都期望一到的地方。最熱鬧時,一天就有近十萬人湧到這裏購物。本展覽將帶你走過中英街近百年潮起潮的變遷。

    賽馬會香港歷史學習計劃

    1941年12月至1945年8月,香港在日本軍政府的統治下,經歷了三年零八個月的黑暗歲月。日軍不但以殘酷的手段管治香港,又強迫遣返市民歸鄉,加上糧食嚴重不足,導致不少市民無辜喪命。即使有幸生存的人,他們的生活亦苦不堪言。面對物資短缺、物價飆升,以及日軍的嚴密監管,大部分市民都過著三餐不繼、誠惶誠恐的生活。另一方面,為鞏固在港統治,日軍多方面施行日化政策,除了下令採用日式地名,還透過教育和政治宣傳等手段努力灌輸日本文化及價值觀念。 本展覽將會展示日治期間香港社會的狀況,以及市民的日常生活。

    香港高樓大廈林立,人口稠密,卻擁有大片受保護地區,保護各種動植物及地質遺跡。1976年《郊野公園條例》通過,香港郊野公園的規模自此確立。海岸公園及海岸保護區自1980年末開始發展,現時共有五個海岸公園及一個海岸保護區,保護珍貴的海洋動植物。香港的岩石亦具有重大研究價值,政府設立地質公園,保護有過億年歷史的地質遺跡。米埔自然保護區是雀鳥天堂,上世紀各種漁農業活動促成今天的生態面貌;建立香港濕地公園旨在補償天水圍新市鎮發展所損失的生態環境,園內的人工濕地已成為不少動物的棲息之所。

    現時不少香港人都熱愛參與足球和游泳等運動,原來許多體育項目最早是由英國人傳入。自1842年香港成為英國殖民地後,各種西式體育項目逐漸引入香港。起初,體育活動只是洋人的消遣娛樂。直至清末民初,中國屢遭西方列強侵略,人們提倡以「體育救國」,體育運動才開始在華人間流行。1960年代以後,政府著手推廣體育事務,不但加快興建各種運動設施,更投放大量資源培育人才,使體育運動愈加普及,香港的運動健兒在不同項目都有出色表現。

    教育被視為培養人才和推動社會流動的主要途徑,香港的教育發展源遠流長,始於宋朝已有相關的文字記載。直至晚清時期,香港的教育制度與中國各省縣無異,民辦學塾是主要的教育場所。香港開埠後,由華人及宗教團體籌辦的學校紛紛成立,中西式教育並行發展,而港英政府亦逐步承擔教育策劃者的角色。戰後政府分階段發展教育,並以普及化作為發展方向,成功推行九年免費教育。此後,政府不斷增加對教育的投放,市民的教育水平持續提高,為香港社會及經濟發展提供了良好的基礎。

    In response to the global ageing population, the World Health Organization (the “WHO”) devised the concept of “Global Age-friendly Cities” in 2005 to encourage cities all around the world to develop a healthy and comfortable living environment with age-friendly facilities and provide sufficient community support and health care services which benefit the older people, family and society. In order to proactively tackle the challenges of an ageing population and promote the concept of an age-friendly city, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust launched the Jockey Club Age-friendly City Project (“Project”) in 2015 in partnership with four gerontology research institutes of local universities, including CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing, Sau Po Centre on Ageing of the University of Hong Kong, Asia-Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies of Lingnan University (“LU APIAS”), and Institute of Active Ageing of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The four institutes have formed professional teams under this project to support eighteen districts in Hong Kong to adopt a bottom-up and district-based approach to develop age-friendly communities.

    Under the Project, LU APIAS conducted a baseline assessment, which comprised questionnaire surveys, focus group interviews and field observation from May to September 2017 in order to provide relevant information to the Tuen Mun District Council and other district stakeholders on the existing age-friendliness of Tuen Mun District, Hong Kong (“District”). Senior residents in the District have also been recruited as ambassadors to spread the messages of age-friendly city. Training workshops and seminars have been arranged to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge to perform qualitative research by making assessment in the District with reference to the eight domains of the “Age-friendly City”. Meanwhile, residents have been encouraged to express their views regarding age-friendly facilities and measures in the community. LU APIAS has compiled the results of baseline assessment, including questionnaire surveys, focus groups and observations by the ambassadors, into a baseline assessment report. The report, together with this action plan for enhancing the age-friendliness of the District, will be submitted to WHO for joining its Global Network of Age-friendly Cities and Communities.

    Foreword

    Lingnan University is a leading Asian liberal arts university with international recognition, distinguished by outstanding teaching, learning, scholarship and community engagement. We endeavour to cultivate students' whole-person and all-round growth. We encourage students to pursue independent and critical thinking, creativity and innovation, excellent communication skills including a high level of literacy, social responsibility, personal virtue, cultural accomplishment and a passion for lifelong learning.

    Lingnan University encourages faculty and students to contribute to society through research and knowledge transfer. Our sizable pool of experienced scholars in the arts, business and social sciences disciplines combine scholarly work with applied, policy-oriented research, and address topics in areas like finance, fiscal and monetary policy, cultural policy, creative industries, health and ageing, population, and institutions and governance. In the last ten years, our professors have published over 1000 articles in international refereed journals. This booklet features the 139 books and monographs published by our professors during the period from 2008 to 2017.

    In 2017, Lingnan is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its founding as a higher education institution in Hong Kong. With the support and concerted efforts of its stakeholders and building on its successes to date, in the next 50 years the University will be well-positioned to achieve an even higher level of excellence and distinction in the higher education arena locally, regionally, and internationally.

    One Step Forward • One Decade

    In Chinese language usage, “ten” is not only a number but also concurrently symbolizes the culmination of a development stage. As such, very often we can hear about the saying of “achievements made in a decade”.

    In 2016 it is just the year of the 10th anniversary of the Office of Service-Learning (OSL) at Lingnan University. In retrospect, perhaps we should be humble in claiming any “achievements made in a decade”. Nevertheless, through this 10 years' well-honed experience we have managed to link together faculties, students and community members, who have utilized their professional knowledge to respond in unison to various social issues. Their major purpose has been to contribute to the building of a sustainable society. Taking the opportunity to celebrate this 10th anniversary, we set the theme of this annual report as “One Step Forward • One Decade”. We accordingly invited stakeholders from different walks of life to share their Service-Learning experiences and to review what we have undertaken during the past decade.

    A decade may not be enough to let us build a patch of blue sky. But only if we embrace common belief can we roll out, step by step, as the next chapter, another bright and dazzling decade.

    一步‧十年

    「十」,在中文的概念中,不僅是一個數字,同時亦象徵著一個發展階段的總結。因此,我們常常聽到「十年有成」的說法。

    2016年剛好是嶺南大學服務研習處成立後的第十個年頭。回首過去,或許現在我們還談不上「十年有成」,但經過十年的淬鍊,我們透過服務研習的平台,成功連繫了一眾師生和社區人士,攜手以專業知識回應不同的社會議題,為建構可持續發展的社會出 一分力。藉著這個十周年的契機,我們以「一步•十年」作為本年度年報的主題,邀請了不同的持份者分享其參與服務研習的點滴感想,與我們一起回顧十年的光景。

    十年,並不足夠讓您我築起一片天,但只要懷著共同的信念,我們將會一步步地寫出下一個十年光輝璀璨的篇章!

    Service-Learning (S-L) integrates academic study with meaningful community service to create opportunities for students and staff to make positive impact locally, regionally, and globally. In line with Lingnan’s motto “Education for Service”, Service-Learning and Research Scheme (SLRS) aims to provide opportunities where students can apply subject-specific knowledge to the real world, while collaboration partners can benefit from the knowledge and innovation that faculty and students bring to these projects.

    Innovation and entrepreneurship are central to SLRS as it is a priority for liberal arts students to understand and engage with the impact of technology on the humanities, and vice versa. Innovation and entrepreneurship can give new impetus to community service and capacity building, and through this, the making of global citizenship for the 21st Century.

    All 4-year curriculum undergraduate students starting from the 2016- 17 academic year must satisfactorily complete at least one S-L course to meet graduation requirement.

    服務研習是結合正規的學術學習、具意義的服務和著重反思,是博雅教育不可或缺的一環。而服務研習計劃則可以是任何貢獻人類和社會的活動,包括:知識傳遞、社區發展,以處理各樣社會議題,讓學生透過服務培養批判思維和自我反思的能力,並鞏固課堂所學。過程中,不同的持份者﹙服務研習統籌員、學生、服務機構、課程導師和服務對象)會互相交流和學習,討論各項社會議題,構思具創新及前膽性的方案,以紓緩及解決社會問題。
