This exhibition board introduces the newspaper clippings and indexes on Hong Kong labour union within the "Collection on Prof. Ming K. Chan's Research".

Prof. Chan Ming K. specialized in labour union movement research. His collection consists of a set of labour union-related newspaper clippings, mostly published in Hong Kong spanning across 1939-1949. The newspapers collection can be divided into two parts, newspaper clippings (reproduction records) and newspaper clippings indexes.

◆ Main part: Newspaper clippings (reproduction records)
All newspaper clippings are reproduction copies, with each cropped and rearranged on individual A4 size paper detailing sources of newspapers and publication date. Circa 6 linear feet of newspaper clippings are stored in 14 archival boxes, arranged by newspaper sources, then by publication date.

◆ Newspaper Clippings Indexes
Two sets of indexes, index lists and index cards, were created to facilitate the discovery of newspaper clippings.

• Index Lists
  Handwritten indexes on lined paper with around 400 pages. Entries are arranged by newspapers, then by publication date, with each accompanied with detailed page no. and occasional graphical illustrations to indicate the exact location of the article in the newspaper page.
• Index Cards
  Two sets of handwritten index cards (12.7 cm x 7.6 cm) are arranged by "newspapers" and "subjects related to labour union" respectively. Newspaper articles relevant to the subject matters would be recorded in individual card.

陳明銶教授致力研究工運，藏品中包括一套有關香港工運剪報的資料，來源主要涵蓋30年代末期至40年代期間在香港出版的主要報章及小量其他亞洲鄰近地區報章。 剪報資料可分為剪報 (複印本) 及索引兩大部份，結合起來，構成一組彌足珍貴的工運剪報剪報檔案。

◆ 主要部分 : 工運剪報 (複印本)
剪報來自30份不同報章，最早出版日期可追溯至1928年，其餘多為30年代末至40年代出版的文章。每份獨立剪報均為複印本並被重新整理於A4紙上，附註報章來源及日期。剪報主要按報章來源及出版日期排序 (個別報章以特定主題整理)，條理清晰。經整理後的剪報長約6呎，按報章來源及日期放置於14個檔案內。

◆ 剪報索引
剪報附有兩套索引，以助查閱報章內容 :

• 索引列表
  用單行原稿紙，以手寫形式紀錄與工運相關的新聞標題，共約400頁。 索引以特定報章來源為單位，順以出版日期，註明於來源報章的印行頁碼，個別條目更附有手畫圖註，指明該文章於原刊報頁中的刊印位置。
• 索引咭
  用12.7 cm x 7.6 cm目錄咭，按「報章來源」及「工運相關主題」分別製作兩組合共超過800張索引咭。目錄咭上紀錄了與特定主題相關的報章、出版日期及簡單說明。
