Description
Fundamentally different from Freudian ideas of Self which predicate much of global -- and mostly Western -- analysis of societal concerns and issues, there is a profoundly influential Asian alternative to the view of the Self. Ancient Sanskrit texts, such as the Upanishads, offer very different foci and explication of the idea of the Self, its relation to education and to each others in society, and the fundamental connection to Service-Learning. These ancient Sanskrit tests have also deeply influenced early Buddhist philosophy. Dr. Ray's presentation explores these concepts from the Taittiriya Upanishad and their influence on ideas of social connectivity and action in the context of a great part of South Asia.
