Mr. James Schamus, producer of the film Brokeback Mountain (2005) delivered a talk entitled "Next Year in Munich: Masculinity, Zionism and Diaspora in Spielberg's Epic" on 6 November 2006 at Lingnan University. The talk aimed to give students and their teachers the opportunity to hear a leading film practitioner speak about film. A question and answer period was followed by Schamus’s talk and allowed the audience to ask this talented scriptwriter and producer questions about his work in the film industry.《斷背山》(2005) 的電影監製James Schamus 於2006年11月6日獲邀到嶺南大學到主持一個題為《Next Year in Munich: Masculinity, Ziontism and Diaspora in Spielberg's Epic》的公開講座,就奧斯卡最佳導演史提芬史匹堡(Steven Spielberg) 執導的《慕尼黑》(2005) 進行演講,並分享他曾參與製作及編寫的電影。是次公開講座讓師生有機會了解James Schamus 這位國際知名的電影工作者對電影的精闢見解。

James Schamus: As the chief executive officer of Focus Features, Mr. Schamus is a major figure in the American independent film business. Mr. Schamus has worked closely with a number of renowned filmmakers, including Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee, Todd Solondz, and Nicole Holofcener. Mr Schamus has had a long collaboration as writer and producer with Ang Lee on nine feature films, including Hulk (2003), Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Ride with the Devil (1999), The Ice Storm (1997), Eat Drink Man Woman (1994), The Wedding Banquet (1993), and Pushing Hands (1992). In 2000, Mr. Schamus received Academy Award nominations in the Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Song categories for his work on Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000); in 2005, Brokeback Mountain (2005), on which Mr. Schamus served as a producer, won the Academy Awards in Directing, Music (Original Score) as well as Writing (Adapted Screenplay).
Apart from his ample experience in film production and screenplay writing, Mr. Schamus draws the public's attention by virtue of his fine academic credentials. Mr. Schamus holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently Associate Professor of the School of Arts, Columbia University. He has published widely as a film historian, and is currently completing a monograph on the Danish director Carl Th. Dreyer.

除了擁有豐富的電影製作及編劇經驗,James Schamus亦有著濃厚的學術背景。畢業於美國加州大學柏克萊分校 (University of California, Berkeley) 英文系的他現為美國哥倫比亞大學 (Columbia University) 藝術學院副教授,出版過多部跟電影歷史及理論有關的著作,近日更發表了有關荷蘭藉導演 Carl Th. Dreyer 的專題論文,在學術領域上的亦有著非凡的成就。
