Abstract

We conducted semi-structured, qualitative interviews with 17 Hong Kong based middle to senior managers from diverse service sectors about their own service leadership practices in helping their respective organizations to maintain effectiveness through establishing and meeting the needs of service-recipients and end-beneficiaries. Based on their explanations and illustrations, we identified four common practices. These were: entrepreneurial spirit and mindset, distributed leadership, building and sustaining productive relationships with stakeholders as strategic partners, and caring and respectful disposition. These practices and practical examples can inform the curriculum for undergraduate students in Hong Kong.
