Abstract
自去年八九民運及東歐巨變後，越來越多人將此等現象詮釋為民間社會的興起、對抗嚴密的國家機器。許多人開始重視建制外自主力量的壯大，與及如何實踐這些地方的民主空間，擺脫過往想將西歐所謂的「民主制度」和「多黨制」移植過來，或斷言市場經濟出現便會經濟繁榮且引來民主的想法。
本文試圖簡介「民間社會理論」的一些基本觀念和歷史，並以台灣、香港的例子作參照。由於方便起見，本文主要以資本主義社會作考察對象。
