Abstract
Businesses rely on effective strategic leadership in order to confront turbulence in their environments. This chapter proposes that respectful leaders are more effective to the extent that they encourage employees to cooperatively manage their conflicts. This chapter presents results from three studies that support the chapter’s theory. Each study presents and analyzes the effectiveness of a different leadership style, namely productivity- and people-oriented leadership, transformational leadership, and servant leadership. The results support the chapter’s theory that improving the capacity to manage conflict cooperatively can be an effective way for servant and other respectful leaders to enhance teamwork and customer service in China.
