Abstract

In this article I propose to compare the two lyrical traditions, examining poetic structure, the presentation of external and internal worlds, and the mode of esthetic respones. It is hoped that these comparative analyses will shed new light on the intrinsic relationship between the early four-character-line verse represented by the Shih Ching and the five-character-line verse such as those in the "Nineteen Old Poems".
