Description
嶺南學院於1987年接受英國「國家學歷頒授委員會」評審，其學術水平獲高度肯定。翌年獲邀加入當時「大學及理工教育資助委員會」，正式開辦學位課程。1991年學院接受「香港學術評審局」評審獲高度評價，並獲納入「大學及理工教育資助委員會」體系，成為香港認可頒授學位的高等院校之一。
1998年9月8日，嶺南學院取得自我評審資格。1999年7月30日正名為嶺南大學。
In 1987, Lingnan College received a thorough institutional review by the United Kingdom Council for National Academic Awards, where Lingnan College was highly commended for its academic standards. Subvention from the Government increased in the following year, with plan presented to make Lingnan College as a member of the former University and Polytechnic Grants Committee with the capability to offer degree programmes. Hong Kong Council of Academic Accreditation conducted another review in 1991, affirming Lingnan College to officially become a degree-conferring institution in Hong Kong.
Lingnan College attained self-accreditation status on 8th September 1998 and was renamed as Lingnan University on 30th July 1999.
