Abstract
This comparative analysis aims to explore the interplay of love, isolation and dreams in Fyodor Dostoevsky’s White Nights and Robert Bresson’s Quatre nuits d’un rêveur (Four Nights of a Dreamer), an adaptation based on the short story. The interplay of the three ideas reaches a deep reflection on the nature of human connection and how literature, films captures the multifaceted experiences of love within the text and across different contexts and eras, also author’s ideology. This reflects societal values and individual experience. The study reveals how different artistic media and approaches shape the portrayal of isolation as well as the philosophy behind the two artists.
