Description
The purpose of the study was to explore the implementation of the service-learning program and its effects on students' learning. This study would be by "knowledge and skills of service", "self-efficacy", "interpersonal respect and multicultural tolerance", and the "social issue concerns" to explore any effects on students' learning. This study hoped to give some suggestions to Service-Learning program.
The study was conducted by both pretest-posttest quasi-design experiment and qualitative data from September 2012 to June 2013. The participants for this study were all students who took the service-learning courses at Jinwen University of Science and Technology. The Scale for Service-Learning courses in College Students was employed to test the students' changes in "knowledge and skills of service", "self-efficacy", "interpersonal respect and multicultural tolerance", and the "social issue concerns". In addition, the qualitative data was collected from feedback survey and reflection reports.
The results of this study found that there are statistics significant effects on "knowledge and skills of service", "self-efficacy", and the "social issue concerns" in the participants at Jinwen University of Science and Technology. And, the qualitative data indicates that the students got more confidence, interpersonal tolerance, responsibility, and the abilities to communicate with others after taking the service-learning courses. Based on the findings, the recommendations for practice on the college's service-learning program, and further research are Paper presented.
