Abstract

This paper presents a model for assessing learning outcomes in Chinese language programmes. It then reports on the successful testing of the model. The results provide a solid basis for assessing teaching effectiveness and learning outcomes in Hong Kong tertiary Chinese language programmes. Finally, the paper explores opportunities for planning and improvement in language curricula that flow from implementing such a model. The model can easily be adapted to the teaching of other languages.
