Abstract

To evaluate the economic performance and experiences of Chinese societies, and facilitate the free flow and exchange of ideas and research findings, the Hong Kong Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture and the Hong Kong Economic Association jointly sponsored an international symposium entitled “Economic Development in Chinese Societies: Models and Experiences” which was held in Hong Kong on 18-20 December 1986. Among those who attended were scholars from the People’s Republic of China, the United States, Australia, Singapore, the Philippines, Hong Kong and Macau, as well as representatives of various economic organizations and consulates in Hong Kong. Scholars from Taiwan had also contributed papers which were read in absentia. The present volume is a collection of selected papers presented at the symposium.
