Abstract

The article profiles poet and renowned art critic Laurence Binyon. A graduate of Trinity College in the University of Oxford, Binyon worked with the British Museum and had a lifelong career spanning 40 years. His reputation was established in English watercolors, specializing in the works of John Crome (1768-1821), John Sell Cotman (1782-1842), and William Blake (1757-1827). Binyon's passion for the study of early Chinese painting was ignited by his encounter with the "Admonitions Scroll" and with it, he discovered the charm of Gu Kaizhi's style.
