Abstract

The tightness in Hong Kong’s labour market that had persisted since late 1986 finally showed signs of easing in the first quarter of 1991. The Gulf War, high oil prices, and general uncertainty over the development of the world economy had taken their toil in curtailing production and employment in the last quarter of 1990.
