Abstract

Occupational values are salient correlates of occupational choices and behaviors. However, few studies attempt to delineate the formation of these values. Thus five hundred and two Hong Kong Chinese university students were recruited and completed a questionnaire on quality of their part time work and occupational values. In line with past studies, bivariate correlation results showed that quality of part time work was significantly related to occupational values. Specifically, high job autonomy, high role clarity, high job satisfaction and low role confiict were positively associated with high motivation to do good work. However, these job aspects were related negatively to work.
