Abstract

In studying Wenxin diaolong, we have two major objectives. The first is to present a critical introduction to its three broad areas of focus: cultural traditions, literary creation, and rhetorical art. We explore these areas in four interlocking sets of papers. The second objective is to examine these areas from new perspectives. As newcomers to the study of Wenxin dialong, we believe that we have the advantage of looking at this masterwork through unjaded eyes. By introducing new critical perspectives and raising new issues, we hope to make our own contributions to the current scholarship on Wenxin diaolong.
