Abstract
This article tests a philosophical proposition that there is a specific relationship between particular kinds of artistic decision and the ‘completed work of art’ by exploring whether specific examples of contemporary collaborative painting and drawing projects stand as counterexamples to it. This writing has contributed to my research trajectory (which is supported by a 3-year Research Council of Hong Kong grant), and the book I am currently writing on contemporary collaborative painting and drawing practice and pedagogy. The examples in the above cited article include collaborations in which I am involved as a practitioner-researcher such as Reciprocal Interference (http://www.carolarcher.com/portfolio/collaborative-project/ ). Since The British Journal of Aesthetics is a well-regarded and high profile venue for the publication of new research in fine arts and aesthetics, it is expected that this article will have a significant impact.
