Description

This presentation explores Mr Robert Iolini's approaches to organising sound/text/image into non-narrative works. Thematic strands inherent in sound and video examples cover: (1) musique/media concrete in a documentary context; (2) the Sonic Essay and non linear techniques of textual organisation; (3) a reflexive approach to script writing; (4) reversing the filmaking hierachy – sound first image second.

Additional Information

Speaker

Robert Iolini
Born: 1960
Composer & Media Artist.
Iolini is an artist who accepts music, image and sound on equal terms. His works are poetic essay/narratives, stylistically diverse, and united by a philosophical approach. His talent lies in his ability to shape apparently disparate elements into meaningful works of art. Iolini writes, directs and edits his own work. His unique application of musical processes, journalism and montage allows his work to transcend categorisation. His multidisciplinary approach makes his work ideal for cross media projects. Iolini’s commissions include major works for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, Danish National Radio, Netherlands Program Service, Big hArt Inc. His piece Hong Kong: City in Between was a prize winner in the Soundscapes (be) for(e) 2000 festival in Amsterdam. Iolini has completed a Master of Arts degree in advanced composition at Macquarie University, Sydney Australia. The title of the thesis is Simultaneity in Music.
