Abstract

For a long time there have been debates concerning the medium of instruction in secondary schools in Hong Kong. In 2007-08, such debates have spilled over to the tertiary education sector. The recent controversy surrounding one university’s decision to increase the courses to be taught in English compels us to rethink the value of a bilingual education. Against the trend toward internationalization, how can we win the fight against the advocates of monolingualism?
