Abstract

In the morphophonemic studies of ancient Chinese, it is generally believed that the phonetic nature of preinitials is consonant. Some scholars reconstruct minor syllables for pre-initials and this reconstruction changes the generalconcept that each character corresponds to one syllable. Through reanalysis of the nature, source of minor syllables, this paper confirms that the phonetic nature of pre-initials is still consonant.
