Abstract

This is the third issue after the launch of the Journal of Asian Public Policy. This issue completed its editorial work when China was hosting the 29th Olympic Games in Beijing from August to September 2008. Preparing for eight years, the Beijing Olympic Organizing Team clearly demonstrated to the world a spectacular opening ceremony of the Games, many commentators and international media around the world had very positive feedback on the ability and the organization of the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee. Longing to prove herself as a rising power, the Chinese Government has invested tremendously in terms of financial and human resources in order to make the Games a success. After watching the opening ceremony, a number of international observers have begun to ask whether the strengths and determination that the Chinese Government have just demonstrated to the world would go beyond the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, whether the Chinese Government would continue to make China a more open and transparent polity, and whether China would become an environmentally aware country.
